New Texture Artist

Post  Scuttles on Thu Jun 09, 2011 2:45 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm Scuttles the creator of LB Photo Realism (If you need my credentials) and I'm going to be texturing the set for you guys. I'm a huge fan of the 28 days/weeks movies so it was easy for me to accept the offer put before me. If this is not the right place to be posting this, let me know. ^^

Here are some examples of the things I've been working on:
Wood and wooden door
This is showing the brickwork and a few placeholders.
Tall grass texture. I'll work on the biome to fit the movie as well.
Hay/straw texture for barn floor

These are extremely rough as this is the first day that I've worked on them. For now I'm using some of my textures from the LB Photo Realism as placeholders until Styx gives specific details of what some textures should be. I hope everything else is going smooth. =)

Oh, and I live in the US so you UK guys are difficult to communicate with, lol

The textures are outstanding! Still, I am concerned about styx's opinion on using HD texture pack since as he already said he wants to have that Minecraft feeling.
Other than that, the texture pack is amazing!

It is true that I said that, and I do still want the minecraft quality to the film. But I think that it would still be possible to have this with the HD texture pack. After all the characters will be very minecraft-like. It would be interesting to hear people's thoughts on this aspect though.

Hi Scuttles

Here are some more specific details that you asked for. I have split them into external and internal sections but as we discussed earlier the two packs will be practically the same.

Texture album - http://imgur.com/a/ub0S7

Internal
Grey wool - Some sort of textured wallpaper (light colour, cream/white) (Dining room, lounge, second bedroom) - http://i.imgur.com/VFl1l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/d5QSj.jpg
Brown wool - Brown kitchen tiles (kitchen, bathroom floor) - http://i.imgur.com/Wm2GG.jpg
***- Slate (kitchen floor) - http://i.imgur.com/TcMlm.jpg
Blue wool - solid light blue painted wall (kitchen, other rooms) - http://i.imgur.com/Wm2GG.jpg
Clay - Dark (shiny) wall for upper corridor - http://i.imgur.com/dYOI4.jpg
Green wool - Bathroom wall tiles - http://i.imgur.com/cMPDI.jpg
Gravel - I don't like the default one (too red/pink), should be more orange
Cobblestone stairs - Used for bath tub (plastic dark green) - http://i.imgur.com/cMPDI.jpg
Wood stairs - Dark/hard natural looking wood - http://i.imgur.com/fDeTf.jpg
Windows - Boarded up (internal house)
Bed - we have a couple of 2x3 beds in the shots. Use two difference blocks (one for pillow, one for sheets) Don't texture the bed object, it is too small
Table - which ever block you want. Tables are difficult, but would be good to have a dark wood one
Neterrack - coal/ashes
*** - Random carpet (used occasionally)
Pictures - don't really mind - http://i.imgur.com/d5QSj.jpg
Chests - Draws - http://i.imgur.com/B2Rq1.jpg

External
Shot for external textures (tiles/bricks/windows) - http://i.imgur.com/n211D.jpg
Cobblestone steps - tiles
Windows - open slightly green frames
Boat - If possible to texture a white speed boat type thing would be awesome, don't worry if too hard
Smooth stone - stone slabs (could be the same as above for kitchen floor) - http://i.imgur.com/7MTci.jpg
For external shots the leaf block is also very important as it is used a lot. But it looks like the block you already have is very cool so there is probably no need to worry about that.

I've already posted these to you but I will put them here for the sake of completion:
Sword - crowbar (black or dark grey)
Another sword - crowbar with blood on
Mossy Cobblestone - Light, solid green colour (for green screening)
Grass block - remove dirt from the outside, should be all grass
Torches - should be candles for inside
Rails (straight and curved) - Different blood splatter patterns. We can layer these on top of other tiles when the zombies attack

Thanks, Styx. Just woke up over here. =)

I'm heading over to my grandfathers house this morning to do some yard work for him and then I'll get cracking on the internal set. I also have the Bluray version of this movie somewhere on my shelves. I'll try to find that.

Yay! We have another skinner Smile Well essentially you just posted what under Skinning:Introductions I've been asking for. Welcome to the team! I'm WhisperingSiren (or IGN Aurora_Swan) and I'm heading up the rather tiny skinning dept. For more info on me, feel free to read my entry on the intorductions thread. Happy working with you Wink Question: could you also recruit another couple artsy sorts for the project? We need some more help, as each character skinset will have multiple expressions unless they're a zombie, and a decent amount of main characters also need a zombie version.

Thanks for the warm welcoming, Siren.
I do not know of any skinners, but I'll be sure to ask my friends to see if they are willing/able.

For updates on my progress be sure to visit the imgur link in the second post. I'm making good time and I'm hoping for a rough release early next week.

So where and when do we download this? It looks really good and I want to view the map in the way it's supposed to be.

Sorry, I was away all weekend and forgot my laptop charger at home so I couldn't work on this more or even communicate with you guys. =/

The pack will probably be ready for a beta download tonight (EST) so probably the morning for you guys.

Alright, I have a testable version available. It contains elements of both the internal and external set. I haven't finished all of the textures, so bear with me there.

Keep in mind this is a x256 pack so remember the HD patcher and it may lag your computer.

Thank you!

P.S. I think I'm doing something wrong, because I get 1 fps silent

P.P.S. However if I make terrain.png 1024x1024 pixels my fps is back to normal 0_o

Any suggestions thus far with this small release? I'm almost finished with the bathroom set and external set. I'll go for a release of the bathroom set tomorrow so you can get a look at what I'm going for.

It seems that the water is too transparent. In the movie you can't really see anything through it.

Apart from that, I don't have any suggestions at the moment.

One more thing - if it's not hard, then please make a blood spill instead of redstone icon. That way we can throw redstone when we need extra bloodiness.

Post  Scuttles on Sat Jun 18, 2011 6:01 am

Alright. I'll work on modifying the water texture from my pack and see if I can get it to work with this movie set. =)

I was asked to do the railroads as blood splatters, but I guess I can make it the redstone as well for even more blood variances.

Update on the pack:
Bathroom set is entirely finished. External set is coming to completion very soon. Internal set needs a bit of refinements and it's good to go as well.

Just an idea, if the zombies are holding their arms out, how about make the map invisible so it looks like that?

Post  Scuttles on Mon Jun 20, 2011 9:10 am

Alright, all of the sets are finished. I'm working on the boat now. The crowbar texture is being finished soon.

I've made the map texture invisible so it will appear as if a character has their arms raised for the zombies. The only issue is that the zombies may/may not have the map that they've explored appear in front of them. I haven't fully tested that yet.

I'll get a "final" version up either tonight or tomorrow morning (EST). Any final revisions/comments can be made then. =)

Hey Scuttles

Looking very good. Can't wait to see the final version. There were a couple of comments that CutToTheChase had but you might fix those in this newest release. The HD version does lag my computer a bit which might be a problem when it comes to recording but I'll deal with that later.
