Post-production blog
Hey everyone! In this very topic\blog I'm going to describe what has been done so far and what we (guys from the top ) are working on.
This will mostly be about VFX, e.g. green screen, color correction, but will also include some notes about production itself, so it's not necessarily POST-production blog.
To start off with, right now we are looking at the shots and trying to understand what we need to do for each of them. Not so long ago we discovered that we won't need to use 3D tracking, as was shown here:
The reason for that is because in ALL the interior shots camera doesn't move at all (with the exception of one shot in the corridor, which is the exception itself). And since the camera doesn't move we don't need to do 3D tracking, 2D tracking will be enough for it and also, it's easy to do it! \m/
In this really short example we can see that 2D tracking does it's job perfectly:
As for the editing, I set up Dynamic Link between Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere. That will save me a lot of time and will prevent me from doing VFX for more or less footage than I need.
I mean, how can you understand something in this mess?:
(the mess is brought to you by Styx )
At this very moment I am busy making a "shout out" video for my YouTube channel to bring more people for the last day of shooting. Hopefully, people will give us feedback in form of coming to the server!
Re: Post-production blog
That's cool.
If we need to re-shoot any of that scene is shouldn't be a problem. At most it will be 2 actors.

Those effects are beyond me, the best I can do is crop and making a background see-through :3

Re: Post-production blog
Apparently, I still need to use 3d tracking.
Like for this shot:
"Why couldn't you use 2d tracking?" - you ask - "You said you looked at the shots and thought there is no need for it!".
Well, I am still right about that. But the problem is, actually tracking something using 2D is harder than using 3D. Mainly, because when you use 2d trackers, you need to specify what will you track, while 3d tracking uses a lot of 2d trackers and specifies them automatically, so the chance of a bad tracking decreases since there is a lot more trackers for program to work with. And After Effect's 2d tracking system is a bitc- well, is not outstanding.
So yeah, some of the complex shots will require 3d tracking. Nothing to worry about though, your friend Bat won't let you down.

Re: Post-production blog
So, I think I'm done with the VFX for the moment. You may ask - "LOLWUT, U NO DID OTHER GREEN SCREEN SHOTS???".
Well, some may already know we have some problems with zombie repetitiveness. That means there is no point to work on the shots we'll delete later.
I'm trying to get some answers from Styx, but it seems like he is busy with something. Let's just hope he'll come on the last shooting day (or else I'll crap my pants because I'll have to do all the work).
Meanwhile, get yourself ready for tomorrow's shooting (or today's, depending when you are reading this message)!
Re: Post-production blog
When you wrote that "chillout time" was that by a mouse, because that is AMAZING handwriting xD
Also, is there -meant- to be a good chance that we will finish tomorrow? (providing that we have 15-20 actors)

Re: Post-production blog
Okay, seems like I am a little bit wrong about zombie being in a lot of places at the same time. We only have him appear one more time than we actually need. That means I'll need to continue working on VFX! Yay!
On the other hand, I still have 10+ shots to work on, and that's definately not "yay".
Meh, I knew what I signed up for. BACK TO WORK.

Re: Post-production blog
Sorry guys that it took so long to film our "cloning" shot. It was hard to explain about 3D being actually different from what you see in 2D perspective.
Anyway, here is your present:

Re: Post-production blog
Thanks to Styx's feedback (I'm all about feedback, because I'm trying to make everything perfect ) I improved the cloning scene.
Here it is, but I don't think you'll notice THAT much of a difference:
Also, I am finally finished with the scenes including the Boy. The final touch was making Don actually block the lighting!

Sorry to bring out a problem in the vid, but the zombies seem to like 'stop - go - stop - go - stop - go - '
Sorta, jumpy. I know the server isn't ideal, but us there anyway to solve it?

1)Ask notch to improve the animation system
2)Invest in an expensive server
3)Reshoot everything until we'll get animations right (will take lifetime)
Re: Post-production blog
18\24 shots = 75% done (Green Screen)
0\1 (Interior VFX) (yep, looks like we have a creeper Alice somewhere in the corner of just one interior shot; need to fix this)
1\2 (Exterior VFX) (1 cloning shot and another shot with... let's just say it's going to be BOKEHLICIOUS!)
What, you thought there will be no hand drawing in this post? Oh, silly, here you go:

Re: Post-production blog
I dunno.
We still need to do tons of stuff, including:
-Making the exterior shots with lots of zombies
-Editing exterior scenes
-Doing VFX for the last shot (optional but looks nice)
-Discussing overall look
-Making the trailer
-Publishing and spamming
-Spamming
-Spamming
-SPAMMING GOD DAMN IT
-Releasing the actual machinima
-???
-PROFIT!

Please do this. If you don't fancy doing it, give me the links and I will do it instead. We need as many people as possible this time.
