Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
Videocraft.net could not be found. So are you going to rent an actual website?

Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
Yeah I'll get an actual site and some proper hosting. So I can host a site, a voice server and hopefully a minecraft server as well all on the same domain.
Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
So will future projects be public so people can just come and go and look through all the progress or will it be hidden to members who aren't actors? If it will be hidden I think you should lock everything after it is finished and then let everyone look through all the stuff that happened so everyone can see all the hard work.

Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
What will probably happen is that during the project a forum like the one we have here will be private. I might occasionally post a few public pieces of information on the progress of the project though. I suppose we could make the forum locked and public after that.
But we still need a name...
videocraft.net is not available, it is just not being used.

Im not creative with names/titles, I made a small story once and sat there for a good hour thinking of a title. It is now called unnamed. I will try and think of some more.

Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
I guess we'll have to use .net , since .com is mostly used for commercial organizations..
..unless we are going to make money out of the machinimas.

Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
I don't think that matters too much. .com is more often used and there are no restrictions on who can own those domains.
There are these guys already:
https://www.youtube.com/user/CraftedMovie
So a similar name, but it should be ok. Anyone else got any other ideas?

Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
So I've been thinking..
Storyboards are usually hand-drawn, right? Of course we can do sample shots in MC, but making sketches would be quicker and better in my opinion.
I recently installed a program for vector painting (guess which one ) and I have to say that vector graphics are perfect for storyboards.
As an example, let's take a look at this:
Here is a medium shot (we can see the character, foreground and a background (woohoo, a sheep!)):
And here is a close up of the character's face, using the same picture:
Notice the absence of the quality's loss. The actual picture size can be either 100 by 100 pixels or infinity by infinity, so it's up to the author to decide!
And as Styx might now, Celtx supports storyboarding and can also allow user to preview storyboards in realtime (like if it was a rendered movie)
Now, there is a question for Styx: what if we use Dropbox to share our Celtx' project file and storyboards? :3
In my opinion it would be brilliant for post-production, but I'd like to hear any suggestions from you, my awesome partners.
P.S. @GamerDave I don't know anything about these two.. movies or whatever. Probably because I'm not british or american, but whatever the project Styx wants to make (even if it's italian sitcom), I'm up for it.

Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
I had to learn about Vector crap once. We had to make a animation of a penguin doing whatever we wanted in adobe fireworks. All I know about vector things is it doesn't lose quality when you resize it and stuff.

The link does not work, I think I know wht it was though. Was never a fan of Half-life, although Portal made me want to give it a chance.
For the link stick a 0 on the end.

Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
Styx, Y U NO COMMENT ON MY POSTS?
The video was really well done, I have to admit that. Also, Half-Life is much more popular than "28 weeks later". And the guys who made the video were quite popular before they released it.
I wonder why doesn't Styx just kick me out of his team and invite the guys who made VFX for that video.

Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
Sorry, Bat.
Using a storyboard like that is a good idea and I just took at look at how to do it in Celtx. I am not sure why we would want to do it in vector format though, doing it in photoshop would be much easier.
I haven't actually watched the HL video all the way through yet but I will take a look if I got to the pub to get free wifi later. For what I saw though, they had unnecessary cuts in it so the characters jumped around a bit. That's just sloppy. I'll take a look later though.
CraftyFilm is good. It doesn't just have to refer to Minecraft then.
Oh and during my down-time from the internet I am working on a small music video (not Minecraft). I'll give you a bit of a sneak peak. It goes WUB WUB WUB a lot

Re: Thoughts on the project and the future
Imagine this situation:
We need a shot that I think should be wide angle. I make a storyboard for it and it's all pretty and good.
But then, evil Styx says: "No! We shall not use wideangle! We need a closeup!"
And then, I can simply increase the size of the image without losing the quality or details, whilst using scaling in Photoshop will make everything blurry.
Of course, we can make 10000 x 10000 pixels images in Photoshop, but vector graphics do save a lot of space.
P.S. Music video?.. If it has WUBWUBWUB then it's definately not the "Friday" video you were talking about..

Evil Styx?
Yeah I can see when that scenario would be useful. Does Celtx allow you to use vector images?
The song is not Friday lol, and it does go Waah a little bit.
